kate205gti 4 Posted August 7, 2008 my 1.1 look developed a misfire last month - nothing major just running on 3 until it warmed up, then all the time, I swapped the dizzp cap coz that looked a bit mullered but no change and actually got worse so last week i swapped the HT leads, plugs and rotor arm - and now it wont fire at all! It just turns over and over with no sign of starting and fires flames out the carb which would indicate timing?? but the leads are on the right way (1-3-4-2 anti-clockwise) ive swapped a new coil onto it today and same thing any ideas where else to check please? my only other car sounds like its dropped a bag of bolts in there now too so i need to get this one working to get to work
swordfish210 20 Posted August 7, 2008 The only other thing to check would be the ignition module. And just make doubly sure that the leads are on the right way around
kate205gti 4 Posted August 7, 2008 thanks swordfish im pretty sure they are but can someone idiot check for me just in case please: is there any way i can tell if the ign amp has gone? i thought it would run but misfire if this went? its not even trying to start just turning over and over and spitting
cazzy93 0 Posted August 7, 2008 you could try getting a spark tester or taking the spark plug out and arch it off to see if there is a spark, you could also try cleaning up the parts where the leads go onto the distributer. If there is a spark there is a spark then it could be a fuel or carb problem.
kate205gti 4 Posted August 7, 2008 just tried - theres def a spark
swordfish210 20 Posted August 7, 2008 No1 is at the flywheel end of the engine
johnnyboy666 195 1 Cars Posted August 7, 2008 sounds like it might be overfueling? also worth checking the quality of the leads in case the some sparks are escaping across the head randomly lol
bren_1.3 1 Posted August 7, 2008 if its sparking then its time to check the cam driven fuel pump. timing is worth a check, but seeing as its been a progresssive issue i dont *think* thats going to be the problem.
swordfish210 20 Posted August 7, 2008 I'v allready solved the problem, Kate's positioned the leads as if No1 is at the pulley end of the engine, not as it should be at the flywheel end

kate205gti 4 Posted August 8, 2008 sweet as a nut - just driven into work least it was something(/one) simple pugtorque said: http://img385.imageshack.us/my.php?image=leadsdo4.jpg Shown on an Mi but lead order & positions on the dizzy cap are the same as on the 8v.
