ishan 5 Posted August 5, 2008 I have a 1992 205 GTX 1.4. I bought it with on the understanding that it pops out of 2nd and 4th gear under acceleration. A garage prior to my purchasing advised that it would be a worn syncromesh and that replacing the gearbox would be the best bet. Changing the gearbox I still have exactly same problems with the new one. What could be the problem? Please help.
Jrod 7 Posted August 5, 2008 (edited) Knackered engine mounts. Engine tilts on acceleration and it pops out of gear. Edited August 5, 2008 by Jrod
andychalmers 0 Posted September 23, 2008 generally they pop out of 2nd gear on sharp corners on hard acceleration even with good engine mounts. The engine & box seem to move & pulls on the gear linkage thus pulling it out of gear. Check engine mounts as suggested then fit a 3rd engine mount to the top drivers side mount next to the other 2 (so engine cannot move sideways) problem solved. AdamP 0 Posted September 24, 2008 I had a problem with my RG popping out of gear on hard 2nd gear corners once or twice. Fitted uprated engine mounts and a gearbox stabiliser bar from TI motorsport and now all is fine and dandy.
