Maximum Boost ?

Recommended Posts

whizzer71

Ive been told that these bottom ends can take upto 300 bhp happily but how much boost can the pistons handle before they give up,I understand obviously that there are many variables involved ign / fuelling charge cooling inlet temps etc ?

Cheers

Std pistons hence my fear of melting them.

guffe

I would be more concerned about detonation and resulting snapped/bent rods than melting pistons.

What turbo / injectors & management are you using,I take it this is a stock 2.0ltr block and pistons crank etc, have you lowered the compression beyond standard ?

Cheers

I didn't say they were good, I just stated that Cometic makes them

I'd stick to std too, I have seen them on over 250 bhp alloy blocks without problems. I also will put standard gasket to my engine, hp goal is over 300...

sorry but the std head gaskets are ok yes for a std engine but for a tuned engine an uprated one is a must

Guest RonnyJ

We have used std headgasket on both our T16 engines without any problems.

The 405 T16 with GT3076 @ 2bars+ and the 205 T16 with GT30 setup @ 1.8bars and we are using std gaset with out new setup, so I wouldnt underestimate it ;)

I would dare to say a fine tuned XU10 turbo bottom-end can take 400hp+, but how much boost you'll get 400hp comes down to head flow, exhaust manifold, backpressure etc...

Crazy-legs!

If you are intending on using the stock pistons have you considered aquamist Tris? I know all the GT4 boys use it, as well as most pulsar drivers. On a GT4, the stock cast pistons are usually marginal at 1.1-1.2 bar. With aquamist ive seen them taken to 1.3+ with no problems!

Cheers, Marc.
