Just Fixed My Wobbly Seats

Recommended Posts

Guest Gar

Just thought I'd let you know how easy it is to do this.

Remove the entire frame, first by undoing the front torx bolts. Make enough clearance for the torx drive and ratchet by leaning the seat forward.

Next, undo the rear torx bolts by sliding the seat foward on the rail to uncover the bolt heads.

Remove the seat.

Tighten all bolts on underside of seat frame and the rear internal mount/body bracket.

Check that the brace between the two rails hasnt snapped. If it has, drill a hole through the side of the rail that has snapped, tap and drive in a bolt with a diamater the same size as the internal diameter of the brace. (This should have really stiffened it up).

Next, wrap some copper wire around the plastic bushes that are present throughout the mechanism.

Lastly, unscrew the rubber bump-stops located at the front of the seat frame, exposing about 10mm.

Re-fit the seat and frame. You will have to leave the washers that sit between the frame and body in place, otherwise the sliding mechanism drags on the carpet.

Easy isnt it!

What does this do Gar/Nick?

Stiffening up the bushes is all I can think of...

NickR, Yes. I got that idea off one of your old posts. It works good! I put a blob of grease on each one too, to make sure they won't bind.

Snowman, it takes the lateral movement out of the bush, forcing the various linkages to rotate dead square within the bushes. The lateral free play in these bushes all added up to a very loose seat.

Hope this helps!

Right. Just found this thread again.

I wil probably taking my seats out soon to fit some ICE soon, so can get a few shots then.

Theres not much to see to be honest, just a case of finding the loose bits and running a bit of wire round and twisting to act like a washer.

Sorry about that. I don't have a digital camera anymore. One other small problem, I don't own the same car anymore! Sorry!

It wans't difficult though, you just wrap the wire in-between the bush and arm, effectively making a washer.

Thinking about it, you could probably get the same effect by cutting a notch out of a washer and slipping that in to take away the lateral free play.

Hope this helps!
