Cost Of Home Engine Rebuild The Difinitive Price Up.

Recommended Posts

kyepan

Hi there,

Having searched about i was trying to gauge the rough prices of an engine rebuild (home built) , hopefully if the list gets completed it would give a rapid indication of the real cost's involved .. and hopefully could be made a sticky. I hope people don't take this as an "i can't be arsed to do the hard work of finding all this out for myself" thread, its just so many people on here do their own builds, if each person adds one item, we'll be there in no time and can keep it to help others FAQ style

Not being one who has dabbled in such dark arts as engine building, i have not got the foggyest how much everything costs. It would be useful for all the people making the descision to rebuild... so If i make a list of bits and processes that need to be done.. if those who have, could fill out the prices they payed (roughly).

Only problem with the XU10's is the bore seem to wear so retaining std pistons is an issue.

Otherwise about £400-500 covers it

Then if it's bore and pistons add about 800ish to it

Looks like the magic "approx 1K" that is often mentioned, then  - but looks like that would finance the rebuild of an engine that was basically sound to start with!!!

Only thing that seems absent from the list (to my untrained eye) is water pump and maybe oil pump and chain replacement would be prudent, too ?
