Stock Motronic Ignition Map

Recommended Posts

karlo

Bit the bullet and wired up some junk to read out the eprom from the Motronic 0 261 200 161 from an MI16 (DFW w/cat). This is the result: http://people.opera.com/~karlo/visa/0261200161.bin.

The eprom decodes to something like this:

161-timing.png.

Not sure about the idle timing map, but it doesn't really matter much.

that's great, can you post a screenshot of a fuel map too?

Out of interest, what RPM is peak torque on that engine, looking at the ignition map, about 3400 - 3800rpm?

Interesting to see the different gaps between load and RPM on that table, quite fine at low rpm but very coarse at higher revs!

Good work on extracting the data, but unfortunately it's only of use to an engine fitted with the 161 or 158 ecu, the lower compression XU9J4Z (DFZ). As the compression and efficiency increases you need far less advance, typically around 26 deg. for a D6C. If you do a search you'll find some curves I've posted for a high compression (11.8:1) engine, which has around 24 deg. max. at full load.

Here's the 139 bin file for your interest:

http://www.taylor-eng.com/ecu/139.bin

Are you sure you've extracted the right part of the file? My 161 full throttle file has 3400-3800 at 30.0 deg., running down to 27.75 at 6400rpm

Been a while since I was on this forum. Thanks for the 139 eprom. There are two timing maps in this one, they are almost identical. I'm not sure which one is used under what circumstances. Never mind the idle map again, just BS.
