Occasional Non-start

Recommended Posts

gerlewislewis

right, well its still not starting! even with the new amp, and a battery which has been charing for days. The starter is turning over strongly. but the engine is not coming to life.

I havent checked the tachymetric relay, im not too sure what it is, or what to check for, theres a load of cables near my right knee, but it looks like spaghetti junction in there!

I guess I need to check for fuel and spark next. Is it worth me getting one of those bulbs u stick on the ht leads? if so where can u get them?

HT Testers are available from Halfrauds last i checked. There pretty handy, personally i just put a plug in the end of the lead, youll be able to see if its sparking.

As you said, confirm you have spark and fuel to all cylinders.

Lets is know how you get on

If you have been cranking for a while the spark plug should be wet with fuel (or at least smell of it).

If you do go MP 3.1 i've made a few posts about it a while back. You'll need the bits of a ZX Volcane 1.9 or 405 Sri as Miles says.

The 405 has the better/longer loom but they both essentially have the same bits.

You'll need the toothed flywheel, CAS, inlet manifold with takeoff for the map sensor, thermostat housing to blank of where the distributor would be plus loom and ecu.

Cheers for that Rich. Im gonna try and fix my current problem before I go down tha route though.

I got hold of some ht lead bulbs today, so next time I get the problem, I will attach them and see if I have a spark.

There's deffo fuel there when I have had a look and you can smell it and here the fuel pump working so it won;t be the Taccy relay, It could well be the Alarm as there not that good and cause all sorts of random issues many with resistance with a good 4mm thick wire into a mere 1mm wire which does not work,

Even on a £700 Clifford alarm (All singing and dancing) install which was just over a yr old went wrong and wouldn't let the car start,

could the alarm be stripped out if all else fails? Or maybe take it to a clifford specialist.

ok, a mini update. Not much has changed, except I have more info:

The car will start EVERYTIME when the engine is warm.

does this help any experts shed any light on my non-starts?

UPDATE:

Since I changed the ECU temp sender on the back of the head, the problem has never occurred since.
