Gti6 Coolant Running Temp

Recommended Posts

shooter mcgavin

cant help but notice that since i took the 6 engine from my 306 and fitted it to my 205 it heats up a lot faster

normal driving it runs about 90 degrees but as soon as you stop i creeps up to about 98 pretty fast.

obviously there is less room under the bonnet to let the air flow around and the fact that the rad is smaller.

its not a problem but defo running hotter

any1 had any similiar issues with this?

cheers

graham

The GTI6 engine runs hot anyway. The fan switch sensor doesn't trigger until 98degs for low speed and then 110 on high, and turns off at 90 degrees again. That's when it's in a 306.

Normal driving temp is usually around 83 ish.

All Praise The GTI

mine does this. its fine untill it gets to normal temp(where the needle usually sits on it/not sure what temp it is tho!)

then when its up to temp if iam stationary for more than a few minutes or in traffic moving slowly the needle shoots right up quickly :)

I'd say odd, The few I;ve done have all been the same but as we know the 205 Guages are mainly for show than anything else, I know some 8v's look like they run hot when they are not when checked with a Laptop

my Mi was the same when up to 30-40 mph+ temps were 90 on a non pug gauge but as soon as i stopped it would shoot up to near 100 and thanks to my crappy fan trigger I would have to turn my fan on via the dash for lengthy periods,

fitted a 72degrees thermostat and now runs at 72-75 normal driving and when you stop you have lots of room for temp rises. And the fan is there if its really bad traffic! :(

Theres also less room under the 205 bonnet compared to a 306 so things do get warmer quicker. If your 205 has a plastic flap covering the back of the lower grill in the front valance remove it as this helps a little with cooling :)

I got my 75' thermostat from my local motor factors in a kit for under £10 by going through teh Peugeot/Citroen listings but if you specifically want a 72' one you need to ring Skip Brown Cars for it.

They don't have a website or email so its phone only;

the skip brown one is about £18? when delivered, can't quite remember.

It doesn't come with the 2 rubber gaskets that go either side of the stat, so might be better off getting a 75 degrees one.

Yeah that made a huge difference with my lowered rad I have to say was a little suprised :D
