Head Recon

hi ya,i have just bought a cylinder head 2nd hand.i want to recon it but not sure where to start etc.i may get it staged/gas flowed etc.any advise please and parts list prices please?..oh what to start on first.?..thanks :)

 

(i have done a search but no reslut really!)

check that valves are straight and not rattling about in the guides, send it to be pressure tested and checked for squareness, skimmed if needed.

 

re-assemble with new seals, valves lapped in if needed.

oh!.one last thing i dont know if its 1600 head or 1900 how do i tell that to please?..cheers

Buy a head gasket kit from GSF as it will have nearly all seals & gaskets which you will need (head gasket, camshaft oil seal, inlet manifold gasket, exhaust manifold gasket, valve stem seals, etc.)

 

Get the head skimmed & relap the valves.

As above but I would check the valve clearances and re-shim if needed. Also, I wouldn't worry about skimming unless the head is proven to be warped.

Definatley get it skimmed to up the CR. There's a bit of free power there.

 

Seats cut (correct angles and widths), valves ground and back cut and shimmed.

 

Most 8v's have shagged guides as well!
