Guest pughardtop Posted January 29, 2008 Hi, My 205 1.9 f plate seems to run fine but once up to temperature the idle speed is 1500 rpm, blip the throttle and it will rev and drop down to 1000rpm then creep back up to around 1500. would appreciate any sugestions to set the idle at about 1000. Cheers
pug_ham 245 3 Cars Posted January 30, 2008 Clean all the intake system out throughly, all breathers, air intake pipework, AFM, TB (including the idle speed bypass & brass screw), check the throttle switch works as it should & doesn't need replacing, vacuum advance capsule is working & the pipe is connected to the TB & capsule at both ends. Basically make certain everything is working correctly & its properly set up. Graham.
205007 12 Posted January 30, 2008 the thin brass pipe that is on the throttle body has a rubber hose to the top of the oil filler cap...is that the idle speed bypass? if so does this need drilling out as the pipe leads nowhere yet it still has a takeoff? hmm

No, the idle speed bypass is all enclosed within the throttle body itself. That pipe is a part of the breather system. The brass screw is in the housing & has a channel leading to & from it which are either side ofthe butterfly in the main part of the TB thats part of the idel sopeed bypass duct. Graham. davemar 16 Posted January 30, 2008 Might be worth checking for air leaks. As I found out recently on my Mi16 (it's in another thread) the throttle body was leaking air out of one of the spindles. You can use a hose like a stephascope to listen out for hissing.

With the engine stopped :- Pull off the thin breather hose from the top of the throttle body and squirt in some carb cleaner. There is a small pin hole. Remove the brass idle screw and do the same. Take off the air hose to the throttle body, open the throttle butterfly and do the same. You could also take off the AFM and give it a good clean with carb cleaner and an old toothbrush. You can also spray carb cleaner into the pipe that goes to the SAD. This is the breather hose that tees off from the corner between the AFM and throttle body. With the engine running :- You can also spray carb cleaner into the air intake to the AFM whilst the engine is running. A bit at a time or it will stall. You would need to first take off the hose from the air filter to the AFM to do this. You can also try spraying carb cleaner into the pipe that goes to the SAD. Hope this helps ! Fast Road Jay 0 Posted February 5, 2008 With the engine running :-You can also spray carb cleaner into the air intake to the AFM whilst the engine is running. or rev the tits off the engine - spraying Carb cleaner into / around the inlet can basically work like a 5th injector! if im feeling lazy i use it as easy start at work and it will quite happily make an engine rev like crazy until its burnt off
simonb 0 Posted February 6, 2008 Also, make sure that the throttle switch is not causing the butterfly to stick open slightly due to bad adjustment as this has happened to me in the past.

Cheers, Ile try the carb cleaner and check the adjustment of the throttle switch
DamirGTI 345 Posted February 12, 2008 Hi ! Check the SAD connector and measure the voltage output on the connector terminals .. if the SAD connector is unplugged or if theres no 12v feed form connector to the SAD heater element the bimetallic disc inside the SAD will open up again when the coolant temp. drops down a little bit (from say 85deg down to 80-75 ..) during the driving (like when cruising on the flat road in high gear ..) and it'll start to increase the idle speed badly - I've had this , and it was a bit annoying Regards !
