Zx Top Mount For 6 Conversion

Recommended Posts

shooter mcgavin

read that the top engine mount from the zx is a little shorter so is ideal to sort out the m/c clearence issues.

not 100% sure i have the right 1,it measures about 75mm

dont have a gti-6 mount to hand to see if the zx 1 i have is any shorter, can anyone confirm the hight of a 306 mount?

the other issue i have is when test fitting the mount the round metal base is hitting both sides and the front lip on the engine mount cradel

is this normal or do i have the wrong mount? it's around 90mm wide

I asked Spiky off here about this, and I have ended up using the same as he found which is an RS2000 mount from Burton Power which is shorter, along with a lengthened bottom mount and spacers on the gearbox mount. The manifold is sitting very nicely in the middle of the exhaust tunnel, and I have got a gti6 de-cat downpipe (magnex) which fits with no mods needed at all. The only slight problem is one of the gear rods is very close to the sprung bold holding the manifold to the downpipe, but this should be easy to sort with a different bolt.

I remember that in Spikys threads he tried a lot of different mounts combinations.

this was my next option, so you dont have any master cylinder issues with the burton mount, dont suppose you have any sizes of it?

the diameter looks a lot smaller on the rs mount, think i'll give it a go

how much shorter is it than the 306 mount

prob need to be about 5/6mm?

Thats the mount yes. You'll have to add some washers to this as 50mm is dropping it 25mm which is abit too much, I think a 10mm spacer so your up to 60mm should be fine, then like mentioned extend the bottom mount and space the GB. I'd recommend a group N lower to go with this aswell. Will be abit shaky but it'll stop the engine moving as much so you shouldn't run into any problems with the engine hitting the MC etc

 Most of the time i find that just breaks the rubber, the lower part is castelated (sp) and is easier to get a drift/chisel and knock it round(Is metal underneath the initial rubber bit) But they can be a right PITA! Try and get some WD40/duck oil etc underneath and let it soak for a while.

I made a tool that's a simplified version of the dealer tool, I made it out of an offcut of Truck exhaust pipe that happened to just slide over the mount, I cut and folded 3 tabs in to engage in the notches and drilled a pair of holes in the top.

mine split the surround for the hex, nice bang that frightened the local kids on bikes.

will try tapping it round with a chisel, and if not, have a nice piece of scaffold pole that could be adapted with three notches..

soaked it in wd yesterday afternoon, will go back to it tomorrow

cheers for the advice guys, very much appreciated.

Yea I don't think the allen key (not found on all the mounts) is intended to undo it or tighten it properly as it just twists the rubber.
