Odd Non-starting Problem

Recommended Posts

trickywoo

1.6 gti ran fine yesterday even in all the water.

This morning won't start.

Cranks at a good speed

Good spark

Fuel getting as far as the injectors (I had the nut off the fuel line on the injector rail and it sprayed a surprising amount of fuel when turned over)

Any ideas gratefuly recieved

I've also wd40ed the ignition amp and the water temp sensor.

Drop the dizzy cap off and check for water/moisture in there.

Check both sides of the king lead on dizzy and especially coil end. Coil male connection can get a little corroded if its a phase 1.5 2, some fine sandpaper can sort that out.

Thats what it was thanks.

I thought it would probably be OK as it was fine the night before and I had a good spark but there was a fair bit of moisture in there. The rad was steaming a lot, due to being underwater, the steam must have condensed inside the cap.

Is it right that the dizzy cap has one central contact, two 'sticking up' contacts and two flush contacts on the edge? Or are the flush contacts worn away? The cap was clean with no marking.
