306 Gti-6 - Xsi Engine Difference?

Recommended Posts

bluespanner

Does anybody know how the GTI-6 and late XSi (16v) engines differ? How does peugeot get another 30bhp out of essentially the same engine?

Reason for asking is that I have the opportunity of buying Mums W reg XSi for not much wonga.

Cheers guys :P

the head, inlet and exhaust manifolds me thinks are the main difference

Exhaust could be sorted pretty easily, as could the inlet i'd imagine. What is different about the head? Cams? bigger valves?

cams and ports not as well finished IIRC, unsure how the valve sizes differ.

150 bhp is quite easy to get out of these as most are producing over book power.

The 167bhp one has smaller inlet valves and bigger exhaust ones.

Mattsav gave a a very good explaination of the head differences just recently in another thread. The cams are really really mild, compared to the really mild cams in the GTi6, which are a lot milder than the 1.9L Mi16 cams.
