Best Stuff For A Large Service Kit?

Recommended Posts

McPikie

Right, I am going to give the pug a decent service over the xmas period. So, obviously, I will be changing the following:-

Oil

Oil Filter

Coolant

Spark plugs

HT Leads

Ditributor cap

Rotor arm

Fuel Filter

Oil filter

Few questions that have probably been covered numerous times:-

1. What is the best oil? Currently running 10w 40 and it seems to be ok. Gets used everyday

2. Do I use normal patter motorfactor parts or try to get genuine parts?

3. What spark plugs and leads? Standard, up uprated??

4. Should I be replacing any gaskets/clips/lines/hoses while I am at it for peaace of mind?

Cheers guys

1. 10/40 is fine

2. i'd go for pattern parts from a reputable supplier like GSF/ECP

3. best standard plugs are probably NGK BCPR 7ES; i'd just go with whatever leads GSF/ECP have in stock (i've had Bosch, Beru and Hansa from them - happiest with the Hansa). NGK's platinum plug BCP 7EVX does make a difference but costs a fortune compared with the standard plug

4. just follow Haynes and give it a full inspection service too - that'll help you spot whether or not you need to be replacing any hoses etc

There should be two washers on each banjo bolt, there are two on the bottom as well as two on the top.

How are you going to fit on 2 oil filters??

Give the gear box some new oil too.

Ihave always found one of the best things to 'service' on all 205's is to clean each electrical connector with contact cleaner.
