How To Remove The Tailgate Glass

Recommended Posts

Martin W

I need to get the tailgate glass out to replace it with a pollycarb window but is there another way to get it out without using a knife to scrap out all the bonding?

I just dont want to scratch the paint as it was only sprayed a few years ago!

Any help much appreciated.

Not smashed a car window before but doesnt it go into like a million pieces that needed cleaning up?

How easy is it to make a perspex rear windown with it not being entirely flat? Any pictures available?

thanks

Phil

If your planning to make a rear window you should use polycarbonate as perspex shatters, moulded screens can be made but they do scost more. A flat screen will suffice my needs.

I'm not keen on smashing the window, but I'll heat up the glue with a heat gun and prize the window out I think.

If you don't need it, tape it up in duck tape and pop it. Saves glass going everywhere.

When i had my car sprayed over, i just got a window guy and the bodyshop to pop it in and out for £25 B)

Certain things i like to leave to the professionals along with there tools.

Very good advice.

I've taken a fair few bonded windows out in the past, but a proper window fitter makes the job look easy, and with a combination of their special knives and cheese wires, it's a doddle of a job for them.
