405 Sri Compression

Recommended Posts

Does anybody know what compression these engines run as standard? I can't seem to find anything much on the net about them. Thanks.

They're around 9.6:1 IIRC (I can check for you when I get home), but internally they have flat-top pistons and the chamber size in the head is larger than normal GTi heads. So if you put a SRi head on a GTi bottom end you'll get a low compression engine, and if you put a GTi head on an SRi bottom end, you'd get a very high compression engine.

Excellent, any idea what compression would result putting an sri head on a gti (1.9) bottom end?

For the benefit of future searches it'll be about 8.5:1

A 1991 405 SRi XU9J2/K - the engine with the MP3.1 ecu - is 9.3 to 1.
