Running Issues

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Since running my 88 1.9 for 2 weeks now I've noticed a couple of running issues.

When cold it idles quickly for a long time. It will stay at around 1700rpm, and it will stay like this for some time (about a mile) It ticks over perfectly when it warms up.

Second issues is, usually in first or second at low speed its a bit jerky and crawling along at low speed isn't very easy.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Dan

If the cold idle drops to around 1000rpm when warm then there is nothing wrong other than its a little high at cold but a mile isn't far at all. Usually its that the cold idle clears to fast causing the car to stall when its not fully warm & you dip the clutch.

The 205 GTi is very well known for kangarooing in slow moving traffic, you soon learn to ride the clutch a little to catch it before it makes you look like a learner but if the whole of the intake system (pipes, breathers, throttle body & AFM) is fully cleaned out of any gunk thats built up & set up proeprly then you can virtually get rid of this trait.

A slack throttle cable can make things worse so check its tight & the throttle switch clicks when its closed & at idle.

Graham.
