Dot 5.1 Brake Fluid And 1.9 Compensators?

Recommended Posts

Guest smokinslim

Does anyone have experience of using Dot 5.1 brake fluid in their 1.9gti 205?

I'm wondering if the lower viscosity has any effects on the working of 1.9 compensators?

Do they still work as intended or does it make them less effective?

Can't say that I've ever noticed any difference personally, either on 1.6 or 1.9 compensators.

1.9 compensators are pressure limiting anyway, so shouldn't really matter what fluid you've got in there - be it brake fluid, veg oil or diesel - so long as it exceeds the rated pressure then the compensator should limit. Naturally, the rest of the brake system wouldn't take kindly to anything other than brake fluid mind you, so don't try the above to prove me wrong
