clifton 0 Posted September 29, 2007 got a 106 today from work as a run around while i finish off the 205 when i brought it home i could smell oil inside the car...anyone know why this could be? i then opened up the bonnet and there was some oil on top of the inlet manifold..dont know where this could from really apart from the cam cover..but the cam cover looks alright and the gasket looks ok? any ideas for both please? cheers ben
jim21070 2 Posted September 29, 2007 The rocker box (cam cover) seal leaks pretty freely on the TU. Another favourite place for an oil leak is from the head to block joint. Give the engine a good clean-up and see from where it is leaking. Oil fumes, especially if they are being nicely warmed by the engine because of a leak, can easily get into the passenger compartment as the bulkhead is in no way air-tight. pugman211 0 Posted September 30, 2007 used to have a 106 gti, and it used to leak oil from the filler cap when i gave it beans, which was everytime i was in it!!!!
Guest wingnut Posted October 1, 2007 Most likely suspect is the rocker cover, as already mentioned. It's also worth checking that the breather pipes and air filter are clean. Maybe take off the inlet pipe and check the throttle butterfly and AFM as well...although if they're blocked you'd get a performance drop to go with the oily smell. Dj_mini 7 Posted October 1, 2007 Its normal for tu's to leak from the head gasket just above the alternator so give that a quick check.
