Twin Carb

Is it possible to twin carb a 1.6 or is it only really worth doin to the 1.9? i heard you can get near enough 180bhp with the 1,.9? How much will it affect fuel consumption, and what other work will need done for optimum performance? thanks

If the engines were different designs with different induction/injection systems then the results could be different but they're not, everything relevant is the same. In fact if you assume that either the percentage bhp increase will be the same or the actual bhp increase will be the same then it will be AT LEAST as good on a 1.6, possibly better.

only on a MI16, if nailed they will drink more fuel than the injection system. Think we ned to know why you are asking? If its a standard engine theres no real point in converting unless you do head/cam work. And the carbs will allow you to use more wild cams so it all adds up, likewise theres not much point in just having a performance camshaft

So, looks like carbs help a fair bit, though I'm sure it would be a bit less on a standard engine,

Carbs will push torque and bhp up by 10-15. without other mods.

So a 1.6 may make 125-130 bhp and 110 lbs/ft

 

A 1.9 normally makes 130-135bhp torque increase is similar to 1.6 but feels more.
