Is It Safe/possible To Reuse A Headgasket

Recommended Posts

As i've had to take the head off my Mi16 to get the piston out will i have to change the headgasket as well?

The headgasket looks in excellent contition so i was just wonderign if it can simply be reused if there's no damage.

This engine repair is costing me more than i want already and i realise a new HG is not a lot in comparison but if i can save £20 by not needing to do it then i'd rather opt for that.

Cheers

Unless its a specialist copper gasket you absolutely must change it every time the head comes off, there is no way it will seal a second time. And you really should change the headbolts too, some people do reuse the bolts but its very unwise IMO, if one shears in the block its no fun at all.
