Guest bigbore Posted September 13, 2007 Hello all , I have just bought my first 205 and im hopeing to turn it into a track car , Well this is my aim . Im 29 and in desperate need of a hobby so i though i would look for a cheap car to put on the track . I have picked up a 1992 Pug 205 GTI with a MI16 engine with R1 Carbs . It cost me 500 but it does come with problems . The body work is fine but its the engine that has issues . There is a knocking when you rev it and when i was driving it home as soon as you give it revs theres a constant knocking and when you let off the throttle it stops .. Before i strip the bottom end what should i be looking for ? Im thinking play in bearings metal fillings . Is there anything else i should be looking for ? Sorry its not very informative but im all new to this cheers Jamie
bren_1.3 1 Posted September 14, 2007 you'll be looking at the condition of the crank more than anything. if its knackered it'll require re-grinding with new bearings to suit.
