Magnex System And Standard System Do They Join?

Recommended Posts

Longun

I've currently got a full magnex system with manifold but I can't stand the sound of it. Can I fit a standard back box onto the magnex mid section or the whole standard rear section to the magnex manifold to try and tone down the raspy tinny sound?

Thanks

What diameter is the pipe between centre box and he backbox?

The magnex's are 50 mm pipe if i remember rightly, you can buy all the exhaust pieces separate such as reducers, so you should be able to join the magnex manifold to a standard system, using a reducer section. Might take some fettling to fit.

In honesty itd be a lot easier to change the whole lot back to standard i think. Considering the standard system isnt too bad anyhow.

I'd rather keep the manifold. I've never been a fan of the after market systems on the 205 they don't give much bhp but as I've only got a little 1.6 the 1 or 2 I get from the manifold I'd like to keep as I don't have many :)

You can fit a sleeve or an olive fit BB alone, but the system's are slightly larger than the std systems.

From what i have learnt, the magnex system is different to the original pug system. It's neither a 2 piece system nor a 3 piece.

My problem was i had the system on, and fitted the Mi so had a down pipe made to fit the magnex system.

Since then the baffles in the middle box failed (as usual!) and then the backbox baffles went(causing it fail the MOT). I ended up needing to get the 2 last pices of a 3 piece standard exhaust so i could make it to fit.

So what what you might need to do is buy a 2 piece system and then bodge/ make fit an old piece of exhaust off another car with a straight pipe with and ending the same size as required.

There's a few different types of Magnex's by the seems of it, but from my experience of quite a few, Magnex Back-boxes can be different to the systems, (unless you have a plain olive type fit BB) the centre section joins the manifold/downpipe in a different place, and are of a larger bore, therefore aren't easily joined to a std system.

As Baz says, there are different configurations.

They sell (or used to sell) 3 options - full system inc manifold, system from DP back, or just a back box.

Certainly the full system has the joint between the mid section and downpipe (or the end of the manifold in this case) in a different place to where you'd find joint between the mid section and downpipe on a standard system.

The 2nd option, system from downpipe back, is made to fit a standard downpipe, so if you bought a 2nd hand Magnex manifld and a 2nd hand Magnex system designed to fit the standard downpipe they wouldn't mate up.

On both these systems, I'm pretty sure the joint from mid section to back box is also in a different place to where it would be on a standard system.

None of this is really relevant to the original post but it gives you and idea of how complicated it can get if you want to start mixing and matching parts.

But as already mentioned, you can get reducers and lengths of pipe etc to cobble something together. I think in the Motorsport section of Demon Tweeks they used to stock Jetex exhaust parts for custom making exhausts.

Or just get a local place to cut and weld it all together as required.

Cheers for the replys all. I think I need to get out there and do some measuring.

I've just done this! I had a car that came with a magnex manifold and centre sectiob and a std backbox had been badly bodged on where the original got ripped of during a rally. When i looked at the centre box i could see that this was cracked in several places so decided to try and fit the std system that came with the car.

I cut the centre box off the centre section and then used a bit of pipe to join the std system up, i had a bit of pipe lying about which was the roght size to slde over both ens and clamp down. Seems to be doing a good job at the moment.
