Wheel Refurbishment

I see that the best way to go about refurbing my wheels would be by having them shot blasted with beads, unfortunately the local firms seem to want to charge between £25-£40 per wheel to do this. As much as I like my beloved 205 this seems alot of dosh before I even start laying out for spray paints and extras. Through the search I've seen Nitromors paint stripper mentioned. Has anyone gone down this route, if so any success?

i used nitro morse when i was doing mine, but it took ages and i got bored after one wheel and ended up just painting over the old paint after prepping it up first and you cant tell which one i stripped and which ones i didnt so that worked pretty well, mine are by no means perfect, but then i'm not a perfectionist and wheels do get dirty so if you do splash out a load of money getting them refurbed, u'll have to wash then every 10minutes if you want to see your moneys worth

I would have thought £35 a wheel would get you them blasted or dipped, repaired, and painted by a wheel refurb company. Save the hassle of DIY.

I have been quoted £75 per wheel (both sides) by Motorway Tyres - seems astronomic. Does anyone know of a company round the Reading/Oxford area who will do them for a reasonable price? If so please advise who and roughly how much.

this place is supposed to be really good and should be quite a lot cheaper than £75 each, but theyre probably quite far away from you

Club Peugeot members get some sort of additional discount, but not sure how much. It could be worth a blag.

Get them sandblasted then jsut get some heavy primer on there and paint them yourself. Sand blasting wont cost you much and the materials will be under 20 quid.

That is extortion, we have 13 inch wheels painted and diamond cut for mk1 2 escorts, for £40 a wheel. Powder coating around £30 a wheel.

Locally they charge £150 for a set of four blasted and powder coated rims, in any colour you like. This may sound expensive to some and reasonable to others. Just do not forget prices will differ slightly on location due to overheads etc.

 

Personally I think £150 is a fair deal as if you add the true cost of buying the material and using your own labour, unless you know you can do to the same high standard it is a bit of a false economy. Also whilst someone is spending the time doing your rims you can be doing something else.

To be honest the wheels were in pretty good nick although the powder seeps into any cracks anyway.

Just a half decent rattle can, i've used more expensive paint before, hammerite for example i wasn't impressed at all with. I'd spend more money on the preparation, ie. a decent etch primer if from bare metal.

Well I had a bash with the paintstripper method as I couldn't find a *cheap* bead blaster locally. I'm really pleased with how the first one came out, now for the other 3.

 

I used Nitromors Automative paint stripper, U-POL 8 etch primer, Simoniz 5 wheel spray, and wheel lacquer. £25ish spent when I was originally quoted that just for blasting alone.

Cheers, I bought them cheap and thought I'd give it a go.... marvellous what a bit of effort can achieve.

I used a HUGE plant pot so I didn't get that nasty Nitromors stuff everywhere
