Leaky Pipe

Good idea.

I was looking at GSF and basically the BX diesel has a bottom hose with a t piece for £18. Now i am thinking that since the engine is a BX16v the hoses might be similar. I cant found no info for 306 or xantia bottom hoses though...

I am not sure where this t piece sits and of course for all i know the diameter of this hose could be different making it unusable, i am very frustrated at this problem as it should have been simple to remedy, ahd the previous owner not bodged the hoses to start with.

This extra hose could go to the throttle body. Some 205s have three coolant hose attachements on the throttle body but the third is blocked off, it may be that the XU10 engine needs hoses connected to all three.

On Xantias and 306s the T peice is normally close to where the hose connects to the radiator iirc and hidden behind the bumper etc.

I just thought however that the hose with the T peice could possibly be a butchered 205 oil filler hose, which would explain why it leaks :D

Is there any chance of seeing what it looks like without all that tape on it? I understand if you need it as a daily drive and therefore can't risk taking it all off.

Hi Grim Badger,

I will take the tape off on saturday as I have to repair/change this pipe one way or another. I will then immediatley get a photo up.

Curiously, last nite i was thinking about the 205 oil filler hose theory, you could be right. I am thinking of getting the 306 t piece either from GSF (though not listed on thier website) or from the mighty lion dealers! I will check a scrappy first though.

PS: i will try my best to see where the the thinner hose goes, but either way i guess it cannot be disconnected as i risk serious damage somewhere!

Yes check the scrapyard first as the 306/Xantia hose is long and probably quite expensive.

If you are feeling flash you could get a welder to make a new metal pipe with a t-peice welded onto it, or even buy one from GSF and get them to weld one on.

I've just remembered, My ZX16v (306 S16/405 Mi16) has a large hose and a smaller diameter hose running underneath it that go past the crank from the rear water block, the smaller hose goes to the bottom of the expansion tank as well!!!

yep i will defo go to the scrappy.

I didnt know GSF could do welding for me. Unfortuantley I dont have the tools to do welding, or the skills!

The other plan is to buy the actual 205gti metal pipe and hose clip this just where the t piece is. This allows me to bypass what i believe is the damaged section of the hose and then jubilee clip it to the water distribution block hose.

I am not sure how big the metal water pipe, it is difficult to make out it's length from pics on the net.

PS: Thanks for your help is well grim badger, it is making me understand things a lot more!

Sorry, I didn't mean to say that GSF could do the welding, just that you could get the hose off them and then go to a welder and get a t-peice attached :D

I think the metal pipe is about 25cm long.

I could not see where the hose coming out of the side of the 'taped' hose goes. I will have to take of the grill to see it. But I think it goes to the actual engine block probably by oil filter.

I cant believe the previous owner has not used the original pipes, this has made my job harder as to what exactly to do!

It might go to the oil water heat exchanger that fits onto the block under the oil filter like on th 405 Mi16 (& probably the S16). From your picture, that looks very likely.

I have seen other cars that have been converted to Mi16's by professionals that had tape on the hoses like yours to cobble together the cooling system :D making any future repairs or hose replacement a nigtmare. If I were you I'd remove the leaking pipes & replumb the whole system back to the standard original layout.

Graham.

Hi Graham,

Yes I think the thin pipe goes to the block just by the oil filter. But if i was to plumb everything as standard, where would this thin pipe then go? Also, I was told i had a BX engine, does this mean that it is a 405 mi16? I am confused now!

I will search for a 306/xantia hose first from a scrappy, but if no luck, i will buy the metal water pipe, and try to keep the section of the hose with the t piece on it and discard the rest.

sorry its taken so long to get back to ya but its been absolutly pissing it down these last few day. i couldn't be arsed to get under the car. but its all fixed now even though autofive sent me the front bottom pipe rather than the rear one. the metal pipe including the bit that the rubber pipes go over is about 25cm. you could quite easyly put more rubber pipe over the metal pipe to make the total length shorter if needed. good luck.

Ok,

No scrappies (even pug/cit specialists) had a pipe with a t-piece.

I decided to order the metal water paper from GSF (£12 inc VAT). It will be with me next week and i plan to cut the damge pipe but keep the t piece from it and then jubilee clip everyhting together. Hopefully that should work...

I will keep you guys posted.
