Peetypug 5 Posted June 14, 2007 just bought a phase 2 oil cooler for my 1990 sorrento only problem is it wont fit due to the bracket that houes the power steering pump only thing i could think was dump the power steering and get a quick rack (saves weight and the wife wont want to drive it then) any other sollutions/ideas would be gratefully recieved
Super Josh 4 Posted June 14, 2007 What do you mean by a 'phase 2 oil cooler'? The PAS and AC models are fitted with the oil/water heat exchanger that bolts to the side of the gearbox. This moves the oil filter to the side of the gearbox to make changing it possible with the PAS or AC gubbins in the way. Look here Josh
Peetypug 5 Posted June 14, 2007 sorry i should have been more specific. i bought a later style oil cooler with the rad that bolts where one of the fans goes
Richie-Van-GTi 74 2 Cars Posted June 14, 2007 I thought that was the earlier type? Either way, ditch the PAS pump and ram, IMHO gives a much better steering feel.

Peetypug 5 Posted June 14, 2007 so i've taken a step backwards have i? i thought the oil rad was from a phase 2 which is better? oil rad or water cooler?
Peetypug 5 Posted June 15, 2007 (edited) thanks josh, its the 1st gti i've had and i'm still learning something new everyday (i've had it 4 years) i thought that the oil cooler (radiator) would cool the oil better than the water/oil cooler and i wanted a nice silver oil cooler behind my bumper Edited June 15, 2007 by sorrentopete
Richie-Van-GTi 74 2 Cars Posted June 15, 2007 the later heat exchanger is better as the early ones dont really do much of anything. the newer ones warm the oil up quicker then maintain its temperature better.
Peetypug 5 Posted June 15, 2007 (edited) thanks richie will probably still get shot of the PAS tho i notice your putting r1 bodies on your car how are you sorting the manifold? i've got sum r1 carbs and i'm waiting for a manifold from bogg bros, just takin thier time making it(bin 10 weeks when they quoted 5) Edited June 15, 2007 by sorrentopete
Richie-Van-GTi 74 2 Cars Posted June 15, 2007 Ive used a cut down MI manifold but my engine is 16v so spacing is totsallly different. before this I had a 2.0 8v on gsxr carbs, sold the carbs and mani for £190 with pump and reg. That was a bogg bros mani for R1 carbs as well.
