Phase 2 Oil Cooler

Recommended Posts

Peetypug

just bought a phase 2 oil cooler for my 1990 sorrento

only problem is it wont fit due to the bracket that houes the power steering pump

only thing i could think was dump the power steering and get a quick rack (saves weight and the wife wont want to drive it then) :(:D

any other sollutions/ideas would be gratefully recieved

What do you mean by a 'phase 2 oil cooler'? The PAS and AC models are fitted with the oil/water heat exchanger that bolts to the side of the gearbox. This moves the oil filter to the side of the gearbox to make changing it possible with the PAS or AC gubbins in the way. Look here

I thought that was the earlier type? Either way, ditch the PAS pump and ram, IMHO gives a much better steering feel.

Yep, that's the earlier type. What are you trying to acheive here? your PAS equipped car should already have the oil/water heat exchanger fitted, that I mentioned in my post above.

thanks josh, its the 1st gti i've had and i'm still learning something new everyday (i've had it 4 years)

i thought that the oil cooler (radiator) would cool the oil better than the water/oil cooler

and i wanted a nice silver oil cooler behind my bumper

the later heat exchanger is better as the early ones dont really do much of anything. the newer ones warm the oil up quicker then maintain its temperature better.

Ive used a cut down MI manifold but my engine is 16v so spacing is totsallly different. before this I had a 2.0 8v on gsxr carbs, sold the carbs and mani for £190 with pump and reg. That was a bogg bros mani for R1 carbs as well.
