Vss Senser Needed With Manual Boost Control?

Will i actually need my vss senser plugged in with an external wastegate? the amal valve will not be used for boost control, although still plugged in to stop a ecu fault code developing. Does the vss do anything other than limit boost and give a speedo reading?ie could i leave it off the gearbox with no fault code/major fuelling issues?

Hhmm not sure to be honest. had read somewhere though that the VSS also helps control fuelling
