Wires Going To Earth Just Ahead Of The Gearstick

Whilst removing a broken aftermarket alarm, I managed to cut the two wires that earth on the front captive bolt that holds down the gearstick surround. I subseqently found that they are in fact standard and lead into the drivers door. I have checked the wiring diagrammes but they are indecipherable to me. Does any one know what they actually earth and if it is really worth me fitting new ones. I know that I should, but its sooo much effort... If I do have to, can they earth somewhere by the hinge and still be effective?

I didnt have any earths here when I stripped mine, never seen earths here either on other 205's. Maybe someone retro fitted the windows or locks on the car and used them for ease of access? Either way so long as they are on a good clean earth contact the location isnt really an issue.

i had a large dia cable here that led to the earth on my sterio???
