Back From The 'ring...

Right, I am now back from the 'ring.

For those who have not been before, go it is fantastic, for those who have already, why did no one suggest it before? :D

I had a fairly eventful week prior with my clutch going the Saturday before :) .

A local Peugeot specialist garage fitted a new one and I picked it up on Friday night.

The journey down to Nurburg was okay but I noticed two things that I had not noticed before, firstly between the speeds of around 30 to 50 mph and with my foot on the accelerator the gear stick vibrates rather badly. Above and below the speed, it is fine and if I don't use the loud pedal it is also fine. Secondly, when turning right at similar speeds I can feel a clunking from the front of the car.

Whilst, neither stopped me having fun, neither are great.

The other problem I now have and which appeared on day two at the ring was that my water temperature gets very hot, very quickly. The previous day my rocker cover worked loose and pissed oil all over my exhaust manifold - nice, ADAC had to sort it (as shown in new avatar), they were great and I thought that all was okay again. The next day and after three fairly gently laps my car completely overheated with water pissing everywhere this time. I let it cool down but even when cold after five minutes driving the water temp is over half, if I put the heater on max and on hot is sort of helps not really a permanent fix.

Any ideas? I know that I have probably rambled a bit and please ask question on bits that I have not covered.

The car had an MOT three weeks ago if that is relevant.

Thanks in advance.

Jonny

Possible head gasket issues if you've been giving the car a good hammering? makes the temps shoot up quick! if you start it from cold and run it for about 30 seconds does it pressurise the header tank?

Be careful when checking!!!

I sooooo wanna go round there, but at the min im sure my car wouldnt make it there and round a lap and then all the way back again!!

mine had done over 200k on the original engine when i took it last year (!); it's a great experience

.

sounds as though you've mullered yours quite a bit :)

could the juddering be related to the clutch?

you'll have to have a look at the suspension/drivetrain to diagnose what's clonking - drop link, bottom arm balljoint, CV joint etc

overheating problem sounds bad - is the fan cutting in? if you didn't have a HG problem to begin with, you might well do now as they the HGs can go if the engine has overheated for other reasons. compression test and/or sniffer test at a garage is probably best way to be sure - unless you've got white smoke from the exhaust or oil mixing with the coolant or vice versa - ?

good luck with it :D

The head was rebuilt a month ago so I hope not!

I know the feeling, trust me!! When it is okay, go for it.

Thanks

for your help.

Sounds like driveshaft got disturbed when they done the cluth sometimes doesnt locate properly on the long shaft inner joint, could just be your fans not cutting in or maybe rad fault,

Yeah I had a wobbly gear stick when flooring it and a funny clunking noise when putting it into reverse and pulling away from stand still. Turned out to be the splined ends of the driveshafts that sit in the gearbox were pretty badly worn, but were like it for ages and it got driven fairly hard, but obviously worth sorting when you can :D

Id love to do the ring! one day...

Edd
