Reversing Light Switch

Recommended Posts

stufarri

Just located this using this fantastic forum as the light ain't working and the connectors on the back of the lamp are fine.

The switch looks clean (not removed it though but the contacts look fine) but are they known to fail?

Anyone know the part number and approx cost? It's a 93K 1.9.

I need to get the light working to fit my parking sensors that I bought off fleabay for £17 - let the abuse commence!

Many thanks

Stu

Have you checked if you are getting any current at the connector to the bulb?

It's common for the connector to corrode due to it's location. Stick a circuit tester into the back of the plug so it touches one of the pins on the wire. If you are getting a current then you can clean up the terminals in the plug using some wet and dry paper. Also use vinegar or something to get rid of limescale on the connector.

EDIT: Just ignore me, I didn't read your post fully! Doh!

Thanks lee-bg.

I have now isolated the problem to the switch as I shorted the reverse light at the female switch end and the light came on.

I tried for 15 mins last night to clean up both ends with no luck - seems the end of the switch in the gearbox itself is faulty.

I now can't seem to get at the switch located on the gearbox as the cluch arm is in the way. I have removed the air filter and AFM which helps but the clutch arm makes it a nightmare.

What size is the bolt on the switch? My spark plug socket is too long because of the clutch arm so I need to get a socket that is deep enough to clear the plastic switch socket on the switch and short enough to clear the clutch arm.

Any suggestions on getting it out?

Many thanks

Stu

Get someone to sit inside and press the clutch? Sorry if thats a silly suggestion!

What size is the bolt on the switch?

22mm, a short reach socket should be fine for getting it undone.

Graham.
