Rear Washer Motor? Where Is It?

Recommended Posts

Guest chownr

My rear washer has packed up and Im guessing gotta be the motor. But where is it? Is it located behind the reservoir in the boot? Any idea how much these are new from the dealers?

The pumps are usually attached to the resevoir. At least they are on the 309's! Not too certain on the 205's though!

Yup is the same on the 205. Should be attached to the reservoir. Think it is behind it at the bottom from memory but cant really remember. It will be on it somewhere though.

my rear washer was not workin when i bought my car. Check that the lines to the washer jet arent blocked, because thats what was up with mine. They were full of horrible black gunk!!!

Undo 2 screws and remove the rear resevoir. The motor is attached to the bottom.

My motor had deceased, 12v getting to it when the stalk was turned but no motor turning. So new motor fitted and all OK.

Thanks guys Ill check the lines but I dont think this is the problem. There is absolutely no sign of any noise coming from the motor when activated so I think that is the likely culprit!!!!

On that note: am I right believing that phase 1 (or "early") 205s had only one washer bottle & motor? Mine has no rear washer reservoir that I know of. (And the rear washer doesn't work, though it doesn't interest me much anyway - the list of things to fix is soooo long...)

Very true, early cars had only one motor/resevoir at the front.

Can't remember when the change over was, but my early 89 car has a rear motor and washer.

My 87 1.6 rear washer stopped and the cause was the wiring between the switch and the pump. I found it easiest to run a new wire between the two under the carpet etc. Problem fixed.

If you have an older 205 you can replace the old style 'wash/wipe combined switch' with a later one to separate the two functions.

;o)
