ryangti 0 Posted May 15, 2007 i have recently brought a 1.6 205 gti , The engine had been pretty much freshly rebuild at shenpar with uprated cam and stage 3 headwork, also full exhaust and shorted induction housing with JR filter, the car drives superb, The ecu seems like the standard item but the car will rev past the standard limiter to about 7200rpm, is this heathy? id assume not unless the bottom end is strengthed? although the car does pull all the way up to it but i have only taken it to that a few times. mickie 3 Posted May 16, 2007 would the same sort of bolts be used on the 1.9 too? thus putting no more load on them than a 1.9? find out if they used arp bolts or anything
Mikey G 3 Posted May 16, 2007 7200 rpm should be easily ok in a 1.6. Dont forget it is a short stroke engine and is less prone to the spinning forces as a 1.9. We ran a 1.6 with a grp A cam and removed the limiter and on a few occasions we saw past the revcounter on its way to 9krpm! dont know how it stayed together but it did 3 events with no trouble and the engine is waiting for a new car to put it in, but this time with proper management and maybe some rod bolts.... danpug 1 Posted May 16, 2007 If its healthy it will be fine seeing that 7200 rpm regularly!
