James_m 0 Posted May 8, 2007 Hi all, just bought a shiny new nissen rad but the allen key drain plug is bloody massive! some muppet has also fitted it in the rad sensor part, so i cant fit the rad until i can get it off. Anybody know the size allen key and where i could get one? Also, why did they fit drain plug in such a stupid position? its useless, probably easier to just pull out the bottom hose now. James_m 0 Posted May 8, 2007 Bit of a waster of a thread as ive decided to buy a few bigger sized allen keys from ebay from ebay. Oh well! But the GLP style rant continues! why could'nt they of used a reasonable size, or even a socket, positioned sensibly!
Baz 421 Posted May 8, 2007 Early/Late or 1.6/1.9 (can't remember which way round) have different places for the thermo switch, so in the way for some cars, perfect for others, should be pretty easy to swap round though.
pug_ham 245 3 Cars Posted May 9, 2007 Its not the drain plug, just a blanking screw. Like Baz says, earlier cars have the thermo switch in a different place. The drain plug (if fitted) is usually at the bottom on the same side as the top hose fitting & later thermo switch hole. Graham.
Henry 1.9GTi 38 Posted May 9, 2007 had to swap the blanking screw on mine for the thermo switch off the old rad and then put the blanking screw in the other side or something like that! lol didnt come with a drian plug either, so bottom hose job.

James_m 0 Posted May 9, 2007 Ok, my bad Mine does'nt have a drain plug in that case. Less stuff to leak/break i guess.... I got mine from GSF. At first they gave me this random black one, but then i remembered about the 'lightweight' nissen rads, and as luck would have it, they had one!
Baz 421 Posted May 9, 2007 They're quite cheap aswell, last time i got one it was only about £35+Vat or so. (may have been trade though)
