1.9 Mi16 Ecu's - Differences?

Recommended Posts

Baz

I have searched but without a conclusive answer.

Basically I have a couple of different Ecu's, according to ATP's site, going by their code numbers etc, they're all different, does anybody know in what way/how if at all there is any differences in them, in this case i'm referring just to 2row non Cats, also ignoring the 4x4 ones. Here's what i've found;

Code ends / Motronic type

..119 / ML4.1

..125 / ML4

..140 / ML4.1

..354 / 1.3

Is there a difference between the ML4/4.1/1.3, does this mean anything even? Any idle speed/Rev limit/ any other fuelling etc differences that anyone knows about, even if just from experiences i'd be interested to know! :)

Many thanks in advance! :D

The 119, 125, 139 etc are the engines without the knock sensor. I know that for example that the 139 is newer than the 125 so I assume there was some sort of update on the mapping??

The 334 and 335 are knocksensor engines but no catalyst.

Then there's the 161 that has both knock sensor and lambda.

Interesting a few 205's listed in there. The chip number would be a map revision.

4.1 is a 2 row, eg 139

1.3 is a 3 row, eg, 354, 161, 158 etc.

From my experience, the 158 is the most desireable of all. Note this comparison between a 161 and a 158, 2 runs of each. Ignore the extended rev. limit on the 158, but note the broader and higher peak. Engine was Stage I cam and 10.8:1.

Ah thanks guys, interesting Peter, where can a 158 be found then!?! -Not sure i've heard of that one before, maybe not a UK one.

Also, i thought the 354 was a 2row, i'm pretty sure that's what my blue 205 runs, and is 2row. :D

So not any known differences really then!

158's are found on BX16V's (Knock, cat and lamda). I was sure the 354 was knock only. Maybe not?

125 is the one to have of the 2-rows IMO.

ooh! I've got one of them! ;)

Any reason why though Chris?

Maybe this sounds a bit "anorak" but it'd be great to know why they made changes to the mapping.

When I first fitted my Mi16 engine I tried all of them and this one seems to drive the best (one stalled occassionally, one had no engine braking and slow to idle etc).

Maybe this sounds a bit "anorak" but it'd be great to know why they made changes to the mapping.

Probably hardly any differences in it I think. Could it be they improved the maps OR the early ones were more "aggressive" and laterly tuned so they'd be more acceptable on 95ron which was the big thing in the early 90s.

Can 2 row ECUs 119/125/139 be swapped inbetween?

Lets say one has loom from 139 and wants to put in 119 ECU in?

Cheers

There's only minor differences in the mapping, all the electrical side is the same I believe, so they should swap over fine.
