jim21070 2 Posted March 27, 2007 (edited) Call me an old cynic if you will but I guess this is just yet another brand of "Snake Oil". Modern quality oil is so god these days that additional fortifications are not necessary. Best to spend on a good oil and change it frequently. In some cases it can actually be detrimental. Some contain Zinc and this can wreak havoc with catalytic convertors and Lambda sensors apparantly. I've not seen the demo but they can be misleading. A common demo is to drain the oil and demonstrate that the engine continues to run without seizing. In fact, a warm, freshly drained engine will run with no oil on idle for a very, very long time even without any special additives. It is said, in one of A Graham Bells tuning books, that a car with no oil in the sump can be driven about 40 miles at about 40mph before it grinds to a halt. He goes into other scams that these purveyors of Snake Oil indulge in to show what a wonderful substance it is. I may, of course, be totally wrong and this stuff may be the bees knees. I will add though this: Many years ago, when I was very poverty stricken, I ran an old Volvo 340 (urrgh) and one day I treated it to some new oil. The old stuff ran out like tar and after refilling with fresh oil it knocked. I threw a can of Wynns in and it stopped knocking. When it started to knock again I changed the oil for some more cheap 20/50 and another can of Wynns and it stopped. I drove it another 21,000 miles like this, even using it to tow a caravan to Paris and back. It did die eventually, but not from engine failure; the propshaft fell off in Bicester Finally, if it is so good, why does oil not already contain this stuff?
