Bulkhead Grommet(s)

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Got a question....

What do people with 405 mi16 converted 205's use for a bulkhead grommet? It would appear the Bx loom has a slimmer 8V style loom so fits the standard 8v grommet, but the 405 loom is considerably thicker than the 8v..... so this leaves a problem....

Ive tried boring out standard part, but its not really having it, and having put a big slice through it to get it off the original loom, its far from ideal....

Im thinking one off a 405 mi16 might do the job? anybody tried?

Next problem, is rather simpler. Ive lost the grommet which the bonnet release cable passes through.

The parts cd is unclear as ever, but im thinking 8?

Cheers James.

You should be able to fit the original 205 grommet just slide it over the loom and rap some tape around it then should go back in the bulk head nice and snug thats how mine is done.

You could go to the scrappy and get the bonnet release grommet better than waiting for peugeot to get one in or having to get a pack of ten.

Ive never noticed the BX looms being slimmer out of all the cars I have converted with both variants. BX16v grommets are the kiddy, if not, the 205 grommit does the job, it is tight, but does work.

All the BX looms I've had have been a bit slimmer than the (admittedly few) 405 looms I've had. We compared mine and James' yesterday and his 405 loom is certainly bigger than my BX loom. I assume its due to the extra wiring for the dash sensors etc. that the 405 has which the BX runs on seperate wiring like the 205.

When I fit the alarm on mine I noticed the grommet in my J plate was different to the earlier design that looks like item 8 in the above pic. Edit:- could be item A. just noticed the pic is LH drive model

Mine was just a blanking piece of rubber, that had been cut badly by a previous owner to fit an alarm I was replacing.

I picked one up from a base model 205 in the breakers which had 4 yellow plastic pegs with an hole in the middle for the bonnet release catch.

The yellow plastic pegs can be pushed out and the hole was a perfect fit for the alarm cable that needed to be fed through the bulkhead.

:P:D:D

I remember this.

Me & Anthony cut a slit in the grommet then hacked loads out with a stanley knife to open up the hole as much as possible.

I then had great fun :( Trying to fit this whole grommet & wire bundle in the bulkhead hole. Lots of grease was used along with a screwdriver to poke the grommet through.

One of the least enjoyable Mi conversion jobs. ;)

Trying to get a something that big into a small hole not intended for the job, is always going to be difficult :D

Higgy.
