S16 And Weber 45s

Recommended Posts

I have recently replaced my s16 engine in my 205. Its running with twin webber 45s.

The car starts up fine, and idles o.k untill warm. Once the engine warms up it wont drive, the car judders, and backfires. It stalled lastnight, on lifting the bonnet and opening the throttle (engine off) alot of white smoke was coming out of the webbers.

What could this be down to? What do i need to check?

No white smoke out of the exhaust...yet.... :ph34r: but the carbs were set up on my other s16 engine, so i assumed it would be a str8 swap over?

Backfiring is usuall caused by lean mixtures. Is cam timing ok? Balanced carbs? Ignition system in good order?

The cams were locked in position when i changed the belt . Nope have not rebalanced the carbs, im going to see if i can book it in to a garage to check over. Im not too clever on the technical side, even though i changed the engine! Thanks guys, any other points i could mention to the mechanics?

How do i rebalance the carbs? or is it best left to someone who knows?

Has anyone heard of "JOHN TUNE" from Keighley (up north area) , would he be near you Pugtorque?

I called him to balance my carbs and check the engine running over. He should be down friday, just wanted to know if anyones heard of him, as it was hard finding someone who knows much on the carbs in Bradford.

He is from near me but I've never heard of him. There used to a be a webber specialists in Bradford on the ring road near the Uni iirc but no idea of the name as its a few years since I drove past.

Only place I have found on Yell.com is;

Yorkshire Carburettors

30, Tower Lane, Leeds, West Yorkshire LS12 3SD

Tel: 0113 279 5670

You could try phoning LK Peformance in Cleckheaton (formally Larkspeed), they might know of somewhere thats good with carbs local to you.

Graham.

I've only had carbs on my first car or Mini's but never went there I just noticed the signs when driving past.

It used to have a Unipart sign iirc just before the traffic lights @ Legrams Lane as you come up the hill on Ingleby road.
