Noisy Engine On Start Up

Recommended Posts

bitchass 205

Hi all

I noticed today as i took the car out of the garage that i seem to have a wailing bannshe under the bonnet. its a sort of hollow sounding wine (sp)

It seems to be coming from the cambelt area, i changed this last year, about 1k miles ago. it all seemed fine, was timed up, well tensioned etc.

What could this be? :(

Worried

Michael

Bonez

could be a worn tensioner or a worn pully

start it up with the bonnet up and see if you can see where its coming from

i had it on my old car with a air con pully

Could be a loose alternator mounting bolt with the washer catching the fins on the alternator?.

Definately not just a slipping alternator belt? These make a banshee-like squeal, usually worse when you give it a rev from idle.

I'd go with alternator belt too - they make a real racket when loose :(

definately not the tensioner either, that was changed when the belt was done.

Also it seems to only happen when the engine is cold? :(

hello michael, it wasn't like that when the belt was changed was it?

does your have the metal cam cover on it , that aint come loose has it and rubbing on the belt?

does it increase with engine speed?

if its only happening when its cold it could just be the alterator belt squeaking .

does it sound like its coming from the top or bottom of the belt/engine?

I don't remember it being like it whem we changed it, i not sure if it increases with engine speed, i checked the fan belt a short while ago and it seemed tight enough then, shall check agian. and i think its coming from the top.

I may get the wheel off this weekend and see if i can find out whats happening.

You don't think it may have something to do with the pully that we swapped?

Could be the coolant pump, replaced mine earlier today, and it made a squeaky sound when rotating.
