Afr Ratio Which Is Rich Which Is Lean

As title I have a reading of about 10, is this rich or lean, the engine is producing black smoke as well if that helps.

10 parts air to 1 part fuel.

10:1 is rich, 14.7:1 is stoich.

Roughly speaking, 14.7:1 is perfect normally, down to 12.8-13.8:1 full load (depends what makes best power etc), up to 16.0:1 lean can sometimes work ok.

Thanks for that I thought that it was rich just needed a double check.
