The Story So Far!

Check the stop solinoid is lifting. Throttle will need to go all the way to full fuel before you start seeing any large amount of fuel at the injectors. As said before. Have you checked for air getting in to fuel lines before lift pump. If line isnt properly sealed it will draw air before it pulls fuel. If the timeing isnt close to spot on (within a few dregrees) it wont want to run, but you should still get fuel to the high pressure lines.

Check in order

Diesel in tank

fuel filter clean and full of clean fuel

Line going from tank to filter and filter to pump is not leaking, split crushed blocked etc

Not familiar with your engine but if possible remove fuel line between lift pump and fuel pump, and crank engine. Fuel should flow steadly from here. No fuel or lack of might indicate knackered lift pump, normaly a little diaphragm pump that runs of a cam.

Check voltage to fuel stop solinoid. Probably a plunger type that lifts when 12v is applied. Try removing the plunger, but bear in mind you will have no way of stopping the engine other than cracking of injectors(messy).

If your still not getting fuel, your pump might be screwed???

I,ll have a think, but most fuel probs on diesels are down to the first few items on the list.

Hope this helps

Just had a quick read through, How do you intend on increasing the revs above the governed limit?

Looking good brother!

nice work, but isnt that a non turbo fuel pump? or just a lucas one.

Just a lucas turbo one.

what are you going to do about traction?

All he can do is whack an lsd on there no?

Well started it for the second time today after sundays less than perfect atempt, found out that diesels are more tricky to set up than petrols...

Going in to Peugeot to get the pump set on tuesday at the cost of £15 bargin!

Yes its tricky but you will find a sweet spot in the end. That £15 deal is awsome worth it just to get a mark on there to work off!

NOW THEN> Regarding your rough running issues...the only thing that I can think of is that do you know you have to match up bosch pump to bosch injectors? and lucas pump to lucas injectors? because bosh injectors and pump run at higher pressures. (this is why bosch pump like Veg oil btw)

If you are using bosch injectors with your lucas pump you will get 'dribble' and not 'spray' because the lucas pump is not running at a high enough pressure to fully open the bosch injectors.

If not, and Its all bled with no leaks it has to be a shot pump mate.

easy, adjust the max revs screw :);)

And thats going to take it to 8000rpm, and it'll stay in one piece?

time will tell! mind, he wont know if its doing 8k or not as the rev counter only goes up to 6!

Might be able to point a rader gun at the side of the engine and measure the speed of the pistion as it comes through the block!!!

My bet is on on either the diesel not burning fast enough and the EGT's going through the roof, or the pistons dissapearing sometime after 6k.

The way i see it, diesel only burns quickly when mixed very throughly with oxygen. Which is why its injected into the cylinder under Very high pressure by an injector 180bar is a good point for a normal injector to start opening but it depends on the fuel system.

This is why common rail, is so good, because not only can you inject just the right amount of fuel, at just the right point of the ignition stroke, it also injects the fuel at inexcess of 1200bar. meaning the holes in the fuel injectors can be even smaller and the fuel can be atomised to a much greater point.

This gives a faster burn which means that engine speed can be increased(just one of the advantages along with cleaner burning etc)

The JCB MAX land speed car(off the top of myhead) used a 4.6 ltr engine runinng 4bar boost pressure a highly developed common rail fuel system and a dry sump to achive 150bhp per ltr at a mere 3800rpm(all figures off the to of my head)

The la-mans winning Audi TDis only reved to 5000odd max, again on highly developed common rail fuel system.

So is there any point in raising the rev limit on your IDI engine??? Isnt all the power going to be low down where the fuel burns at its most efficent??? Wouldnt the engine stand more of a chance of staying in one piece at the low rev(less stressed)???

Just my mind working over time.

ITS ALIVE!!!! turned out to be air in the fuel system and a dodgy pre heat box, runs a treat and goes loads better than the 1.8DT and thats on low boost as im running it in!

Thanks for all the help and info look forward to seeing some of you soon!

Thanks Again
