Guest puggtizs Posted February 5, 2007 Hi All, Just got me self, what I thought was a 1.6GTI but turns out its got a 1.9 engine! The dizzy and injectors are 1.9, but the AFM isn't so I'm assuming the ECU is 1.6 as well. Where is the ECU positioned? and which ECU will I need? I found a list on the net with Bosch part no. 0280 000 359 (1.9ECU) is this correct? I also found there is 2 part numbers listed for 1.6 ECU's over the same model years 87-90, is there wiring changes that won't make this a straight plug-in swap?? Sorry if this is a stupid question, but its my first french (and ecu'd) hooning around car, so, I've been told by people to always expect the worst!! Cheers guys Mark
jim205GTI 3 Posted February 5, 2007 By the steering wheel there is underneath like a storage bay look up into that and the ecu will be mounted underneath the dash you can see it as you look up into the pocket ...... ..... if you do need a new ecu and afm for a 1.9 i got both lying around and their from an f reg gti
Ryan 99 Posted February 5, 2007 The ECU is up underneath the steering colunm between the wheel and drivers door. If you take off the flat plastic panel above the pedels then you can remove it easily. 0280 000 359 is the right ECU for the 1.9. It should be a straight swap for whatever ECU you got at the moment.
