mickie 3 Posted November 18, 2006 (edited) my old camshaft on the right is smaller, it reads around the 44mm mark on the profiles ? im not sure what you call it.. and the one on the left reads around 47mm on them.. i put up a wanted for a 1.6 camshaft but im not sure what this one is.. im a bit stuck now.. will it be ok to use tho ? everything else is the same apart from how much it lifts on the cam.. a fast reply would be great as im a bit stuck Edited November 18, 2006 by mickie
welshpug 1,677 Posted November 18, 2006 looks like one 1.6 cam and one 1.9 cam cant remember which way round tho, I think 1.9 had chamfered lobes.
welshpug 1,677 Posted November 18, 2006 should be fine as long as clearances are set properly, and IIRC soem early 1.6's had around 8mm lift and the 1.9 had 11mm.
mickie 3 Posted November 18, 2006 cheers, sorry the cam on the right is the 1.6 so it looks like i have a 1.9 camshaft ? will this give me more power or less ? reading up on it i think ?! i'll get more ??
Ryan 99 Posted November 18, 2006 The replacement cam came from my old 1.6 engine. It was running fine the whole time I've owned it (since Nov 04), so it does at least fit. I can't find anything in the history saying the cam was changed, but you never can tell. Could it be a 1.9 cam, or even an aftermarket?
j_turnell 137 3 Cars Posted November 18, 2006 1.6 cams are prone to wear, does it show signs that it has worn any of the chamfer off atall?
mickie 3 Posted November 18, 2006 no, it looks fine, a lot better than my 1989 1.6 camshaft

Sandy 191 Posted November 18, 2006 Compare the base circles, basically the width at 90 degrees to what you're doing in the pic above.
