Suspension pump? 4x4 Mi16's had them.

What does it do exactly - what's the advantage of it?

It's from a non 4x4 ;)

as Miles said... it's a "compressor" for brakes (instead of servo?), found on s1 405 mi16's

Correct...it is a pump for the braking system and eliminates the use of a brakeservo. It's done more like Xantia style. It is also part of the ABS system. If you drive these cars, braking feels more like and on/off switch and if it fails you have no brakes at all!

perfect way to remove my servo:P any idea how much of that system is needed to fit to a 205? does it use LHM like a xantia though or does it pressurise the normal fluid?

normal fluid as it doesn't have hydraulic suspension.

I don't know which fluid it uses, but I definately won't use it on a 205! There is a reason that Peugeot switched to the Bosch ABS system later on. Reason is that it is a dangerous system.

To the later bosch ABS system - that's from the early one.

It adds a certain spice to driving....

You can say that again!!

If you drive these cars, braking feels more like and on/off switch...

Especially with GTi6 stoppers too... :)

Only earlier phase 1 405 Mi16s had these. I think it's the pre knock sensor ones so July 88 - late 1990.

Autocar were just one of many to complain the power brakes were terribly over-servoed.
