Standard Water Pump On Modified Engines?

how good is the standard water pump on a modified race/trackday engine?

 

what replacements are there/ uprated water pumps? can you use electric pumps, and get rid of the O/E pump? or can you use standard pump+ electric pump?

Have thought about running an electric pump before, gotta be good to reduce some friction=more output, but not really looked into it terribly. It has probably been covered before though, tried a search?
