Is it possible to adapt the standard 1.9 diesel engine into the 1.9 Diesel turbo engine without too much bother or are they completely different engines and looms?

would be pretty the same looms, but the engine itself has many small defferences.

piston spray jets, stronger con rods and pistons, lower compression ratio, different injectors, different pump etc.

much easier to get a complete engine.

In that case would it be any more difficult to fit an HDI engine over a Dturbo engine? Secondly, what are the tuning potentials for both of these engines?

not really, if you're a dab hand at electronics or you've done an Mi16 or two.

recently saw a 130bhp Laser Green 205 GTi HDi, simle remap was all it had had.

Just been looking at the 110hp HDI engine stats from the Pug Expert van. Any idea whether this would fit the mounts of a 306 as both are XU engines?

Actually, would the 2.2 HDI from a 406 fit?

Are 306 and 205 mounts in the same place?

yes all XU cars are the same mounts and either of them engines will fit, you may find it a little tight round the bulkhead though with the turbo.
