Xu10 8v Head

Recommended Posts

Guest ashnicholls

Does the XU10 8V head come with a spray bar with holes in like the xu5/9.

Because I fitted the XU5 spray bar in my XU10 head.

But I have a lot of oil in my head now.

So much so, that It leaks out my oil seal end(dizzy end) which has a brand new oil seal in.

Out of the where the fuel pump would go.

And if I take my breather pipe off the rocker cover it pisses out oil.

Surely this is not right. Because someone said to connect this to the catch tank, which if I did that I would fill it in seconds.

And as I have carbs, I have my oil going into a catch tank, which does not take very long as all to fill up.

Now I think this is because I have an old crimped oil filler pipe, which does not help.

But surely should not have that much oil in my head.

Also when I take the rocker cover off, the head is full of oil??????????

Is this right????????????????

Cheers Ash

The XU10 heads I've seen have a similar spray bar but it doesn't have the spray holes above the cam lobes like the XU5/9.

This could account for the excessive amounts of oil in your head as it doesn't sound right.

Yes that what I thought,

Thanks.

When I say excessive I dont mean when you take the rocker cover off it pours out.

It just sits in the head about the heights of buckets.

Cheers Ash

Is it that bad thing??????????

Is that which is causing the leaks???????????

There is always oil left around the buckets when you take the cover off, it doesn't totally empty when you switch the engine off & there will always be some residue left.

How much exactly is there as it might just be normal?

This shouldn't cause the leaks imo unless you have super high oil pressure but what else have you changed on the breather system when you fitted the carbs?

Yes, well thats what I thought, only abit around the bucket height.

But if you take your top breather hose off, shoud it spray out?????

I have put the up rated oil pump spring in.

But this will only cause higher pressure at higher revs.

Its the same breather system.

Ony thing that is different, is that instead of going back into inlet one hole is blocked on the filler, and the other goes into an open bottle.

Just got old crappy oil filler pipe, which is crimped.

Cheers

The group N pump spring improves oil pressure at all rpm, mines is off the top of the guage at idle when cold but i don't have any problems like this.

I've never tried taking the cam cover breather hose off with the engine running but I expect oil will splash out of it. The mix of a blocked outlet & the crimped fill hose could all add to it.

Yes well just waiting on that new oil filler pipe.

But that still doesnt explain my oil leak from the dizzy end??????

How does it improve pressure at all revs???????

Its just a pressure release valve, surely it only increases pressure higher up the revs????

The return paths in the XU10 head sits higher than on the XU9 head - so you'll always have more oil in the head with the XU10 head.

Depending on how you've got the breathers setup you could be getting a higher than normal crank case pressure, this will cause leaks .

Yes that is what I think the problem is.

Just waiting on miles with silicon pipes.

Did you push the cam oil seals in after you put the cam caps/journels on?

First time i changed the cam seals I just put them in and then put the caps on afterwards. They Leaked!

But when I did it by the book and put them in after they did not leak.

Its a stiffer spring so it holds a constant higher pressure which is why it makes a higher pressure through out the rev range.

I know mine has always indicated a lot higher oil pressure since fitted at all rpm.

Not entirely sure,

I defo fitted the cam seal as I double checked, but I dont know whether I pushed it in or not,

and I may have pushed it in, but checked by taking the cam bearing off. And then just put it back on???????

Its a big pain, because to check it dont you have to take the thermostat housing off?

The cam seal is the pulley end. And that is not leaking.

What type of seal is there the dizzy end?
