Mi16 Thermostat

Recommended Posts

Can anyone post a pic of an Mi16 thermostat? I went to get one from GSF yesterday and they didn't do them, so I picked up a 205 one thinking it would be the same but it doesn't half look odd... though saying that I've never bothered to look at a 205 one so I have no idea!

So, anyone got or can take a pic of tn Mi16 thermostat please?

Cheers

Jon

The 205 thermost looks like a standard flying saucer shape, but OE Mi16 ones have a 2nd level tacked on the bottom so are taller, something to do with faster warm-up or something(??)

However I've always used a 205 (72degree) one in mine without problems.

The 2nd part of it opens/closes the metal bypass pipe on the back of the head. If you've blocked that off then just use an 8v thermostat.

Cool, thanks for the pic... mines like the one on the left and as I've blocked the pipe off that goes around the back of the head it sounds like the right one anyhow

Cheers guys, forum comes to the rescue once again!

Hmmm, not actually sure I do have the right stat... looked at putting it all together today and the stat fits but the front cover that bolts on with the outlet to the rad doesn't come anywhere near close to sealing with the stat and allows it to just rattle around?!

Will post a pic in the morning... also the stat seems to be an 88deg one too :)

the last one I got from GSF had the selection of rubber rings with it, I suspect yours to be a one off Jon.

Hmm.. trouble was I sent Adam out to get it for me, I guess I shoudl have gone myself! GSF didn't even LIST a stat for the Mi16, so I told him to get an 8v one...

8v ones come with the seal, that was what I meant.

I always open parts on the counter when I buy them to check that everything is there, and also that it is the right part.

When I bought the 82' thermo for my 8v it came with both types of seals, two for the XU9 & the wrap around seal for the XU10.

All for £7ish.

Which are supposed to be used then? I thought it was only the wrap around one??

8v XU9 should be one either side of thermostat but an Mi I was working on has that set up now iirc. I think the thermotstat I removed for the picture above had the wrap around one though :D but parts CD shows two, one either side ala 8v.

I just bought a bx 16v thermostat from the GSF branch down the road. The seal came seperately and it seems to be the type that goes round the edge of the main ring bit on the thermostat. Its also a 88c one. Now thinking a lower one would be better. I havent blocked off the rear waterways though so presumably need a 16v thermostat still but where do I get a 82c from as GSF dont list it or is it just one of the diesel ones or something?

cheers

I got my 82'c thermostat from my local motorfactors after looking through the list of ones available for Peugeots with an XU engine.

Basically you have a choice of 82' or 88/89'. The kit I got came with seals for both around the edge or above & below the thermostat.

You can use a normal 8v thermostat in place if the 16v one, it doesn't make any difference imo.

ah so all XU ones fit each other then regardless of head? If I used a 8v one will it still ensure these rear water ways work correctly. I am guessing it will just mean the outlet from them is always open so it will take marginally longer for the whole thing to warm up?

cheers
