309 Steering Rack, With 309 Wishbones?

Recommended Posts

acox99

I am putting 209 wishbones onto my car to create some negative camber, but in the process of cleaning the steering rack up i wondered if i have to change it for a 309 article due to the extra length in the wishbones? Do i, if so anyone got a PAS steering rack going? cheers

same rack is it not? Just different length rod ends IIRC

Better off with 309 shafts!

No need to change the rack as the 309 rack is the same as the 205. You just have to wind the track rods out a bit to make up the extra length.

I asked the same question not so long ago. 'The rack and rod ends are the same. Its a good idea to put 309 driveshafts on as well as the arms however' was the answer I ended up with! This is what I did and everything is fine and works as it should!

Ive just a few questionstoo

Ive tracked down wishbones and shafts at £60 each, about right?. total of 240 plus vat/ del

Is the extra offset visable?,

does it wear the insides of the tyres out on lots of straight motorway usage?,

Is there more torque steer or is the improved steering feel worth it with this set up?.

I guess there never was a 1.6 309 gti, so hubs have to be changed aswell if upgrading a 1.6!

Yes, the wheels stick out at the bottom.

No.

Slightly and the increased cornering grip makes up for it. Steering feel is not improved.

Try buypartsby.co.uk or peugeotparts.co.uk for cheap good quality wishbones and shafts (usually OE)
