Mi, Trusted Company Conversion

Recommended Posts

Guest 205_maidstone

After gathering lots of information on this forum, other websites and a mate who completed this conversion about a year ago, I have come to the conclusion that its not possible for me to carry the conversion out meself.

not enough room (have no drive and live on a main road)

not the proper gear to carry it out.

what trusted companies out there, preferably around the kent area, that would do a good job?

cheers

Pictures of the work DES have done looks very good but that doesn't mean alot really.

Read the post recently titled "Time to change my sig" - its a conversion by Miles - looks very good.

Many people on here would do the conversion for you, well and far cheaper than a pro garage but I guess you get no garauntee that way.

true. to be honest i'd rather have a specialist do it only because of the warrant part of it. if someone was to carry the work out that would always be in the back of my mind.

is there a specific place where i post to ask someone whether they would do it?

Yes thats my 205, mine was converted a few years ago so best phone them for a price. I used to commute to work in it with carbs through the winter months.

There's no such thing as a Std price on these now, Most Mi engines need a rebuild as they stoped making them 14 years ago, But there's always engines around that have done 80k Miles, Odd that one. But even if they are running fine it means nothing, The big ends are a big problem on these engines and if you have a search on the site, You;ll see many oil problem or blown up posts. The headgaskets tend to rot away as well.

There's a few people who just fit engine's but I don;t like this personally and would not recomend it.

I run and Own Pug Racing and have just set up by myself again, I;ve been playing with 205's since 1988, Makes me sound old :D

Other options on newer engines are the S16/Phase 2 405/ZX16v/Xantia engine running the 1.9 Inlet manifold or the GTi6 engine as these do not require as much money spending on them, Most of the time

Please drop me a PM or give me a call :)

Feel free to give us a call at 205parts for some prices, but as Miles says its impossible to give a set price for the rebuild itself as its opening a can of worms, however a price can be given if the internals are good, also the actual conversion price can be given.

We do have a long waiting list but if you have any questions then check out our contact details on our website and give us a call.

I have done loads of conversions, so many that I even started to make my own parts to ensure the quality was as I expected. More and more people started to offer the service a few of which are now companies some of which have gone by the wayside.

I used to charge around £300 to fit an engine, but you need to add the cost of the manifolds wiring and any work the engine requires.

I am still around and fix peoples cars, offer advice and warranty any work I have done full stop. Thats better than a 3 year warranty from a company that goes bust after 3 months of your conversion.

I did my first mi16 conversion in 1999.

It does sound cheap, By the time you check it over and normally change something bang goes a hundred or two,

But I've got to post this Quote 'Miles does one of the best mi16 conversions' taken from NOsMAN

I have to say that DES and Pug Racing both do very tidy conversions.

I am biased in that I did lend a hand up at DES for 4 months last year during the very busy summer period and that they do a lot of work for me, so I would choose them every time BUT if you are down south and near Pug Racing it makes a lot of sense to use them.

We all know unexpected problems can sometimes occur with conversions so its nice to know the company who undertook it aren't a long way away if you need it looked at.

Having said that people from all over the country including the Wicks brothers from down Kent, and lot of people right up in North East and some from Scotland all travel to DES for the work - even with what I said above about having them nearby I still drive all the way up to Walsall for bits I can't do at home.

Either way you are sure of a good quality warrantied conversion with plenty of support if you need it.

Another tip is to check out the prices - generally the more expensive conversions are the best purely because they account for a comprehensive rebuild and not just someone slapping an engine in.

A place called pug1off has just set up in my town of brackley, run by a bloke called matt jobblin, his family have owned a peugeot dealership for while in bicester and he's set up on his own, does some clean conversions and uses all parts like battery covers n things for the gti6 conversions. his work comes with warranty if u use his engines.

he's just built a twin engined 306 using 2 v6 engines, wide arch kit, full roll cage, rally stlye suede dash, looks really nice

£1200 just for the labour!! Probably more than the value of the car!
